Jaxon’s, What El Paso Dining is All About

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Jaxon’s is a local restaurant in the city with many different locations. Jaxon’s is a southwestern bar and grill. The food is delicous, and comes in nice size portions. This is a good family restaurant, or just a place to go with your friends after a long day.

The menu has a diverse selection of foods. The menu consists of Salads, Barbeque, Southwestern Cuisine, Seafood, pasta, steaks, sandwiches, and more. There is also a full service bar with a wide selection of drinks to order.

jaxons.jpgI have had the pleasure of enjoying the food and the bar. One of my favorites is the barbecue wings. It was so funny the first time that my husband got them, because he was in so much shock at the size. The wings were literally the size of the actual drumstick of a chicken. I also love the potato salad, because it actually tastes home made. For those of you who like ranch dressing. I have to say they have the best ranch dressing I ever tasted in my life. The waiter said they freshly make it every morning. It was so good that we actually asked for some extra to take home.

To sum it all up, If you haven’t tried Jaxon’s, you definitely should. It is so very delicous. I’m sure there will be something for every kind of taste bud. For more information on Jaxon’s menu and a location near you go to www.Jaxons.com.

Downtown Chase

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Yesterday afternoon in downtown El Paso a reckless driver caused a huge ruckus. Officers observed an oldsmobile alero hit a white minivan so hard that it tipped over onto its roof. Then the oldsmobile proceeded to drive off without any regard for the accident that he had just caused.

Of course the police pursued the reckless driver all around downtown. The driver continued to drive recklessly running through stop signs and putting other drivers in danger. Fortunately the cars engine died on Eighth st. The driver was arrested and is now facing felony charges. It was reported that he was intoxicated at the time and has had prior drinking and driving convictions.

Exposed: Altuda Arms Apartments

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Recently I conducted a short interview with an ex-resident of Altuda Arms and the information I recieved was quite shocking. Altuda Arms is located at 5301 Transmountain/Woodrow Bean in Northeast El Paso. The outside of the complex looks decent and the rent is fairly cheap.

According to the ex-resident the apartment complex is far from what she would call home. Eventhough she stayed there for a year, only to honor the lease contract, it was not a very enjoyable experience.

From the begining appliances were not working throughout the apartment. The ex-resident made complaints of the freezer not freezing correctly. The maintance came and supposedly fixed it, but she always had the problem. She could only put a few items in the freezer at a time or it wouldn’t freeze. Her toilet leaked for five months. She made complaints but maintenance didn’t show up. They finally showed up once the leaking water went down into the downstairs neighbors apartment.

The worst problem that she experienced in the aparment was the constant flow of insects especially roaches. The apartment complex did send pest control, but the pest problem continued. The ex-resident even bought her own sprays and pesticides in order to stop the problem, but the problem remained.

Finally the Resident decided to move out during the last month of her lease. She told the office staff to take the money out of her bank like every month for rent. So she moved out and a week later recieved a call from Paula in the office. Paula told the ex-resident that she abandoned her apartment and owed alot of fees. The ex-resident was in shock and contacted corporate, but they failed to do anything about the situation.

This article is to inform people of a few of the things that go on in these apartments. So just keep in mind to ask alot of questions before you move into any apartments, and do alot of research.

El Paso’s Best Shopping Malls

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

El Paso, Tx is a small city and there are only a few places to shop pleasurably. Both the east and west side of town have shopping malls with popular stores. Cielo Vista Mall and Sunland Park Mall are both great places to shop. If you’re trying to shop on a budget Downtown and the Discount Mall are better places to shop.

Cielo Vista Mall is located at 8401 Gateway West on the east side and Sunland Park Mall located at 750 Sunland Park Drive on the west side. Usually these malls are packed on weekends. These malls consists of stores such as F.Y.E., Bath and Body Works, Dillards, and J.C. Penny. Their food courts consists of McDonalds,Steakpedos and the usual. Both malls have massaging chairs and benches for you to rest if you are tired of walking around. Unfortunately these malls don’t have designer stores such as Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. They do have a few like Coach, Bebe, and Ambercrombie & Fitch. For more information on these malls go to www.simon.com

The Discount Mall which is located at 5631 Dyer St. has an open market outside where you can buy knock offs for a cheap price. Downtown also gives you the same pleasure of cheap prices. It may not be comfortable because you are walking outside in the hot sun, but you still get the benefit of saving money. At both locations you can find elegant dresses for Prom, Homecoming, and other special occasions and not have to spend hundreds of dollars. You can get a pair of cute sunglasses for 8 dollars and a pair of colored contacts for 15 dollars. They also have a large variety of home decor., jewelry, toys, shoes, and more.

Victoria’s=Good Eating

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Victoria’s restaurant is my absolutely most favorite restaurant in the city of El Paso. I just feel it is my duty to share this with anyone who has not tried it. This restaurant is located in Northeast El Paso at 8949 Dyer Street. It is a very quiet establishment. The waiting staff is very friendly. It is a clean establishment and great for families. The food is always hot when it gets to your table.

Victoria’s has a menu of authentic Mexican food. I know a lot of families in El Paso can get this kind of food in their own kitchen. Victoria’s is good for those of you who don’t know how to make Mexican food, but love it. They also serve hamburgers and other non-Mexican food.

I’ve tried so many dishes on the menu. My favorites are Enchiladas Suizas and the Burrito Texana.
The enchiladas Suizas is a spicy enchilada dish made with green salsa. You can choose from chicken or shredded beef. I love the shredded beef personally. It is very cheesy for you cheese lovers. The Burrito Texana is a very large burrito covered in a red sauce and cheese also. It is filled with shredded beef. The dishes come with a side of refried beans that are to die for, and Spanish rice.

chips_salsa.jpgAll dinner plates come with a starter of crisp tortilla chips and two types of salsa. One salsa has more of an onion tomato flavor and the other has a really hot chile flavor to it. Then a soup is served after that. They serve the best horchata that I’ve tasted in the city. For those who are fans of tres leches cake, this is the place for you.

By the time you are done with your meal you will be full and satisfied. Most of the time I can’t even dream of finishing my food. The best part of it all is that even after you warm it up the next day it still tastes just as good as when you received it at the restaurant. I have taken many friends to Victoria’s and I haven’t found one who hasn’t enjoyed it.

Selling Tobacco to Minors

Friday, July 13th, 2007

cigs.jpgEl Paso county sheriffs went out on wednesday night, to do undercover shops on local convenient stores. They were trying to see how many would actually sell tobacco to a minor and not ask for I.D. They shopped 56 stores and 13 sold tobacco without asking for I.D. This offense is a class c misdemeanor. The stores can be fined up to $500. El Paso county is trying to crack down on the sell of tobacco to minors.

It is a good thing that the county is using tax money in a good manner. I believe that the enforcement of not selling tobacco to minors is a good idea. Maybe now that these stores see the county is getting more involved they will take their jobs more seriously.

Many convenient store clerks do enforce carding at all times. I know personally that I have went into stores where they will not card me. I usually am shocked when I don’t get carded because I know that I don’t look over thirty which means they should card me. On the other hand there are some clerks that just act stupid and card me everyday when I come into the store. I really feel that is stupid. Honestly, is there anyway that I could have grown down in age day by day. That kind of treatment by a customer will potentially make someone stop shopping there.

Carding is great. Everyone should do it, but don’t get carried away because that is when you may possibly lose business.
