Jaxon’s, What El Paso Dining is All About

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Jaxon’s is a local restaurant in the city with many different locations. Jaxon’s is a southwestern bar and grill. The food is delicous, and comes in nice size portions. This is a good family restaurant, or just a place to go with your friends after a long day.

The menu has a diverse selection of foods. The menu consists of Salads, Barbeque, Southwestern Cuisine, Seafood, pasta, steaks, sandwiches, and more. There is also a full service bar with a wide selection of drinks to order.

jaxons.jpgI have had the pleasure of enjoying the food and the bar. One of my favorites is the barbecue wings. It was so funny the first time that my husband got them, because he was in so much shock at the size. The wings were literally the size of the actual drumstick of a chicken. I also love the potato salad, because it actually tastes home made. For those of you who like ranch dressing. I have to say they have the best ranch dressing I ever tasted in my life. The waiter said they freshly make it every morning. It was so good that we actually asked for some extra to take home.

To sum it all up, If you haven’t tried Jaxon’s, you definitely should. It is so very delicous. I’m sure there will be something for every kind of taste bud. For more information on Jaxon’s menu and a location near you go to www.Jaxons.com.

Victoria’s=Good Eating

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Victoria’s restaurant is my absolutely most favorite restaurant in the city of El Paso. I just feel it is my duty to share this with anyone who has not tried it. This restaurant is located in Northeast El Paso at 8949 Dyer Street. It is a very quiet establishment. The waiting staff is very friendly. It is a clean establishment and great for families. The food is always hot when it gets to your table.

Victoria’s has a menu of authentic Mexican food. I know a lot of families in El Paso can get this kind of food in their own kitchen. Victoria’s is good for those of you who don’t know how to make Mexican food, but love it. They also serve hamburgers and other non-Mexican food.

I’ve tried so many dishes on the menu. My favorites are Enchiladas Suizas and the Burrito Texana.
The enchiladas Suizas is a spicy enchilada dish made with green salsa. You can choose from chicken or shredded beef. I love the shredded beef personally. It is very cheesy for you cheese lovers. The Burrito Texana is a very large burrito covered in a red sauce and cheese also. It is filled with shredded beef. The dishes come with a side of refried beans that are to die for, and Spanish rice.

chips_salsa.jpgAll dinner plates come with a starter of crisp tortilla chips and two types of salsa. One salsa has more of an onion tomato flavor and the other has a really hot chile flavor to it. Then a soup is served after that. They serve the best horchata that I’ve tasted in the city. For those who are fans of tres leches cake, this is the place for you.

By the time you are done with your meal you will be full and satisfied. Most of the time I can’t even dream of finishing my food. The best part of it all is that even after you warm it up the next day it still tastes just as good as when you received it at the restaurant. I have taken many friends to Victoria’s and I haven’t found one who hasn’t enjoyed it.

Exposed: Ciro’s Restaurant

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I’ve decided to start writing a weekly blog exposing bad experiences in different places around the city. It may be a restaurant, a club, an office, or any other place. I think this can be great for people who may be thinking of going to a certain somewhere, but don’t know much about the place.

This week I have to talk about Ciro’s address 5725 Dyer Street, just so no one gets it mixed up with a different one. Anyways the first day that i went to Ciro’s my friend had recommended it to me. So I went with her to have lunch. Now, first things first, the outside looks horrible. The inside is not so bad. It’s decent for the size and location of the place. Ciro’s is a Mexican restaurant and the prices are very affordable. The first problem I had was that the waitress didn’t speak English. Which is really not a huge problem because it is a mexican restaurant, but it’s not accomodating to non-spanish speaking customers. The second thing is that there was a huge plastic wrapper in my food. That is just disgusting. How can you cook food and not see a plastic wrapper while you are cooking. It makes me wonder about what is really going on in the kitchen. When I told the waitress she was very apologetic and explained that the wrapper came from chicken. Personally I still don’t think that is good for business considering it was my first time there. Besides all of that, I can make better enchiladas than them.

Just a warning to all, Ciro’s may be good and it may be cheap. If I were you, I would think twice before eating there.

Chico’s Tacos

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

chicos-tacos.jpgNo one can fully experience El Paso life without dining at Chico’s Tacos at least once. Chico’s Tacos is a local restaurant with 5 locations within the city. Chico’s Tacos was founded in 1953 and has become the most well known restaurant in the city. I guarantee that if you ask any El Paso native about Chico’s, they will definetely know what you’re talking about. Now don’t get me wrong! The food is extremely delicious, but the establishment is a whole in the wall diner. So if you are looking for five star dining experience Chico’s Tacos is not the way to go. It is, on the other hand a cultural experience.

It’s a Mexican restaurant without all the class. The food is very cheap. You can get so full and only spend around five dollars. The menu has a variety of foods to choose from such as hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos and french fries. Everyone I know personally goes there to enjoy the savory rolled tacos, that are saturated in a tomato juice with lots of cheese on top. It may not sound delicious as described, but believe me it is. The best part of it all is the salsa verde, which is a green salsa that is pretty hot. If you enjoy hot foods this salsa will make your meal 100 times better, but if you don’t enjoy hot foods leave it alone.

Another reason that Chico’s is a good place to eat is because it is open late, and open even later on the weekends. The only problem with going late on the weekends is that the place will be packed like a can of sardines. In addition to that, almost 90% of the people in there will be intoxicated. It is known as the hot spot, after the club or a good party. Whether you enjoy the tacos, experience the crazy people, or just hate the place it’s an experience that you will never forget.
